Red River North

The Red River North Trail measures 110 km / 68 miles from North Winnipeg to Grand Beach via Birds Hill, Lockport, and Selkirk.

The Red River North Trail is a recreational trail that will, for generations to come, preserve access to Manitoba’s varied natural landscapes; connect local communities; promoting awareness of the areas unique history, culture, and heritage; and providing opportunity for all people to better their quality of life and well being.

The trail travels north from the City of Winnipeg (at the perimeter and Henderson Highway) to Birds Hill, along the Floodway to cross the Locks and Dam at Lockport; North along River Road to Historic Lower Fort Garry; traveling through the City of Selkirk, crossing the bridge and heading northeast through East Selkirk and Tyndall; turning north through the Mars Sand Hills, past Gull Lake, Beaconia, and the beaches - passing through Grand Marais and Grand Beach, traveling north to Traverse Bay to turn South and meet the end of the Blue Water Trail.

Red River North trail offers unlimited opportunities for nature lovers, artists, historians, photographers, cyclists and explorers. Our trails are as varied as the multicultural makeup of our region.

This part of the Trans Canada Trail is great for walking, jogging, hiking and biking, horseback riding and snowmobiling adventures, as well as sightseeing.

Trail Stewards

Local community groups become ‘stewards’ or ‘caretakers’ of sections of trail and parks in their neighbourhoods. These stewardship groups are the lifeblood of the Trans Canada Trail System. They work in partnership with the municipalities to oversee trail and habitat development, maintenance and educational opportunities.

Many thanks to the Red River North Trail Association who worked together to develop over 155km of trail through the East St. Paul, St. Andrews, Selkirk, St. Clements, Brokenhead and Alexander Municipalities.
