South Whiteshell Trail
South Whiteshell Trail

The South Whiteshell trail will run from Rennie to the Ontario border.  The Centennial Trail has been developed by the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides of Canada and is currently 25 km in length. Running from the Bear Lake Trailhead to Caddy Lake, and has been incorporated into the Trans Canada Trail.  Some sections of this trail are very difficult and not for novices.  The next 14km / 9 miles runs from Caddy Lake to West Hawk Lake, with spur from West Hawk to Falcon Lake.  The spur is an exceptionally well-built trail that is receiving a lot of year round use.  This hike, bike and ski trail is a part of the Trans Canada Trail.  All sections of the trail will afford remarkable views and will lead you from lake to lake through pine forests past granite cliffs and outcroppings.

The South Whiteshell trail offers unlimited opportunities for nature lovers, artists, historians, photographers, cyclists and explorers. Our trails are as varied as the multicultural makeup of our region.

Trail Stewards

Local community groups become ‘stewards’ or ‘caretakers’ of sections of trail and parks in their neighbourhoods. These stewardship groups are the lifeblood of the Trans Canada Trail System. They work in partnership with the municipalities to oversee trail and habitat development, maintenance and educational opportunities.

A big thank you to the Department of Conservation (South Whiteshell) for their support through out the trail construction and all those who have made donations  The Department of Conservation does an excellent job of grooming the much loved section of trail from Falcon Lake to West Hawk Lake for cross-country skiing.  The South Whiteshell Trail was made for cyclist as well as hikers and needs very little snow to be good for cross-country skiing.

With the co-operation of local volunteers, government and the business sector, working together to develop trail and community with respect for our natural environment, this gem is an inspiring example of what can be accomplished. South Whiteshell Trail construction and maintenance is implemented by Manitoba Conservation Parks Branch. We appreciate their continued commitment and support.
